The Old School is a one-bedroom cottage on the Howick Hall estate near Alnwick, Northumberland. As the name suggests, this building was once a school and it still carries plenty of character inside. It sleeps two in a super-king bed with an en-suite WC, making it a proper bolthole for couples rather than families. Guests get free access to the extensive grounds and gardens of Howick Hall and Arboretum, right on the doorstep.

This stretch of Northumberland coast is quiet and easy to explore on foot. Walking routes lead straight from the door through the hall grounds and further into the surrounding countryside. Alnwick itself is six miles away, home to Alnwick Castle, plus shops and places to eat. The Northumberland Coast Path passes close by too, giving miles of walking straight from the cottage.
