About Nurse's Cottage

Nurse's Cottage sits in the heart of Alnwick, Northumberland, tucked away in a small courtyard just off the road. This single-storey cottage is all on one level, which one guest found ideal when travelling with an elderly relative. Exposed ceiling beams and traditional cottage doors give it real character and it won Gold at the Sykes Gem Awards 2024 for Best In North East England.

Alnwick is a historic market town dominated by its castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. Narrow streets keep their old character and the Market Place still has its stone cross and weekly Saturday market. Shops, pubs and restaurants sit within easy walking distance and the Northumberland coast with its golden sandy beaches is a short drive away.

The cottage sleeps four across a double bedroom and a twin room with single beds. The open-plan living space brings together kitchen, dining and sitting areas, warmed by a woodburning stove with wood and a starter pack provided. The shower room has a walk-in shower, heated towel rail and underfloor heating.

Alnwick Castle and its gardens are just one minute's walk from the door, according to several guests and the castle famously doubled as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Lilidorei, the mystical village at The Alnwick Garden, is also a short stroll away. Dunstanburgh Castle is roughly 30 minutes' drive and the Farne Islands can be reached by boat trip from Seahouses, about 25 minutes away by car. Bamburgh, with its own castle, lies 15 miles off.

We had a wonderful seven night stay at Nurse's Cottage. It is a very quiet location, but still so close to attractions, restaurants and pubs. With a car it is also conveniently located to so many activities in Northumberland. A parking pass is provided, and we never had trouble finding a spot on the street.

What an amazing cottage ! Fantastic location to Alnwick centre with varied facilities on your doorstep. Parking permit an asset whilst there and always got a space. Cottage was everything and more , a secret haven of lushness , with everything youd think of that you need on holiday. Definitely recommended find .

What a lovely cottage very well equipped despite the compact nature of the property. Everything worked fine, exceptionally presented and clean. If I had two considerations they would be the parking situation isn't always ideal we sometimes had to park down the road, but that is clearly explained in the property details to be fair, and I might recommend updating the single mattresses. But very much enjoyed the stay, lovely location to explore Alnwick and a nice touch was the Sykes colleague checking the properly before we arrived which was appreciated. Highly recommended.

The bathroom was called a bathroom. Not enough pictures of it but it was a bathroom. It had no bath. Which I thought it did for my wife. Shower was fastened to wall so she could not use it. Rename to shower room. With toilet. And shoe whole room not just shower. Thats my only gripe.
A really stunning cottage as were all the facilities. The WiFi and tv apps were a good plus. We had no problem parking just outside, so the parking permit was a bonus. A very short walk into town. No hesitation in recommending it.

Such a delightful cottage. A great find nestled in a quiet corner of Alnwick yet really close to all amenities of the town. From the quality bedding and large bath sheets, to the surround sound system and satellite TV, Nurses Cottage has everything you could possibly need for as holiday let. Attention to detail was first class. Owners were extremely helpful before and during our stay and fixed a small plumbing issue within an hour. I would thoroughly recommend this property.

Brilliant stay at this little gem of a cottage. Walking distance to the town centre, the castle and all the eateries and pubs but a little oasis of calm once you step into Nurses Yard. Theres everything you need in the cottage and its so comfortable and well maintained that we will definitely be revisiting soon.

Property was exceptionally clean and well stocked. Towels and bed linen high quality. Lovely internal and external spaces and brilliant location for exploring Alnwick and the wider coast and countryside.
We had a lovely stay at Nurses Cottage, a great cosy 'home from home'. Had everything you needed and loved the wood burner. Clean, comfortable and in a super location, quiet and secluded. Loved exploring Alnwick and the Christmas decorations were wonderful as were the different shops and pubs! Visited the garden lights which were spectacular. Hope to be back soon and stay here again

An outstanding cottage very cosy, extremely clean and well equipped. The location is brilliant just a couple of minutes from the centre of Alnwick but the cottage is perfectly quiet being set back from the road. The owners really went the extra mile, leaving presents for our two sons we were staying over Christmas and responding rapidly to any queries that we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Nurses Cottage. We stayed there with my 89 yr old motherinlaw so the fact that it was all on one level and that we could park the car directly outside on the road was perfect. The living areas, bedrooms and bathroom were all very comfortable and the kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything we needed. We would definitely stay there again when returning to Northumberland.

We've had a wonderful week staying in this beautiful cottage, which is so comfortable. Alnwick is a great place for touring the local area and for places to eat & drink. Barter Books is a must visit in the old railway station and the bacon rolls in the cafe are a must. We visited the living museum at Beamish, which was so interesting, Cragside, Holy Island and various other lovely places. We would definitely like to come back to Nurse's Cottage to explore the places we didn't see this time. Northumberland is such a beautiful are especially the coast.

The hosts were very helpful and friendly. The cottage was very clean, modern and peaceful, but really close to the town centre and castle. There was a beautiful little garden to sit in, which was well maintained. We wish to visit Northumberland again as it so beautiful and will definitely book Nurses Cottage again as we really enjoyed our stay there.
We've had a lovely stay in Nurse's Cottage. really comfy with lots of character and a superb location. Visited Dunstanburgh Castle, parked at Craster for easy walk in full view of the castle. Worth going in views are superb. Also visited Alnwick Castle great plus walk along river bank, and Bamburgh but busier but amazing setting Ate at Sher Khan excellant and Market Tavern excellant too!

Such a lovely cottage! We really enjoyed using the log burner. The weather has been gorgeous and we've had some great beach walks. The highlight was seeing a pod of dolphins near Craster. Alnwick Castle gardens are stunning and we'd love to come back in April May to see the cherry blossom and summer to see the roses. We particularly liked the atmosphere and beer! at Harry's Bar and enjoyed a lovely meal at Efe's Turkish Grill gorgeous freshly grilled meals and a very warm welcome.

It was a lovely quiet location but close to the town centre. Perfect in all respects. My one very very slight gripe relates to the arrival and departure times. Arrival after 4.00 seems rather late and departure by 10.00 seems slightly early. For example , we are away next week in another cottage and the arrival time is 2.00 and we do not have to leave until 11.00 which seems more reasonable.

This beautiful little cottage is tucked away in a peaceful corner of Alnwick. All the delights Alnwick has to offer are within walking distance. The interior of the cottage is of a high standard, the log burner a great addition and the underfloor heating in the bathroom is wonderful on a cold morning. This is a lovely cottage,perfect for four people. The standard of comfort is really high and it is quiet and peaceful.Parking is on the street with a permit and we had no problems. The location is very central and Alnwick is a fascinating and variable place,including the castle and the beautiful gardens.

Nurses's Cottage is a lovely cozy Cottage, with so many Places to visit from the doorstep, a permit for parking included never had a problem with finding somewhere to park. Owners available if you need to contact them Milk & Biscuits on arrival thank you for that!!! Many places to eat but make sure you book!! Supermarkets in walking distance too. Nurse's Cottage is a hidden gem! It was the perfect place for us. The cottage garden is an oasis of calm on a sunny evening after a long day as a tourist. The cottage provided everything we needed and the hosts ensure you feel welcome.
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Nurses Cottage. It had everything we needed and was comfortable and cosy. It is tucked away in a small courtyard but very close to the castle and the town centre, but at the same time was very quiet. Next time we visit Alnwick we will be booking the cottage again. One of the best cottages we have ever stayed at. Cannot fault it. The whole visit has been a delight, even the weather at the start of our visit could not spoil things. Have made many visits in the area whilst here but there is still more to see. Would recommend Barter Books if the weather is doubtful, also Caffe Tirreno and The Market Tavern for meals.

Lovely little cottage had everything that you needed, home from home. Situated in a little courtyard with a pretty little garden. Close to Alnwick town centre and the castle. Good pubs nearby and restaurants.
A really enjoyable stay at Nurses Cottage. Very clean and great amenities. Really good location. Places to visit, Cragside, Seahouses, Edinburgh by train only an hour Kielder Observatory but need decent weather as drive back a bit hairy late at night and observatory roof doesn't open in the rain

Fantastic property for 2 people or family with small kids little tight for 4adults Amazing location, 1 minute walk to the castle, 3 minute walk to the lovely little town. Cottage is very clean and has absolutely everything you need. Great property, would definitely recommend.
