Alnwick Castle
0.8 miles (3 min drive)

This Grade II listed tower is in the heart of Alnwick, Northumberland, set up as a romantic retreat for two. This quirky building is arranged over multiple levels, connected by a narrow, winding spiral stone staircase. Guests should pack light, as large suitcases don't work well on the stairs. Only couples can book, as children and pets aren't permitted here.
Alnwick itself is a historic market town with cobbled streets, independent shops and good pubs and restaurants. The tower sits within easy walking distance of the town market, so you can pop out for supplies or dinner without needing the car. Free on-street parking is available nearby, according to guests who've stayed.

The Northumberland coast is within easy reach too, with sandy beaches at Alnmouth, Warkworth, Embleton and Bamburgh good for picnics among the dunes.
The first floor has an open-plan kitchen/diner with a kitchen island and dining table, lit by large arched windows. Above the kitchen, a mezzanine has a cushioned window seat looking towards the town, the castle and the countryside, good for morning coffee. The second floor holds the lounge and bathroom, while the bedroom mezzanine wraps around two sides of the tower, overlooking the lounge below. The bed is a super-king zip-and-link that can be split into twins on request, so the tower sleeps two in total.
Alnwick Castle sits close by and is clearly visible from the east window, particularly striking at dawn or when lit up at night. Alnwick Gardens is another easy visit from the tower, with the Alnwick Treehouse Restaurant offering a memorable dining spot within the gardens. For a longer day out, Holy Island is reachable via its causeway, tides permitting.
Couples wanting somewhere different for a romantic weekend will find plenty to like here. The castle views, central position and unusual tower layout make it stand out from typical cottage stays. Just be ready for those spiral stairs! Book today for a memorable break in Alnwick for two.
