The big draw here is Alnwick Castle, famous for its role in the Harry Potter films, a short trip from the cottage, alongside Alnwick Gardens. Head to Seahouses for boat trips out to the Farne Islands, or cross the causeway to reach Holy Island. Bamburgh Castle is also within easy reach along the coast. Newcastle and Berwick are both less than an hour by car and Edinburgh is a bit further still.
